May creatures everywhere be happy, healthy and free. May all humans struck by insomnia who can’t keep those mental wheels from churning in the wee hours be as blessed as I by the presence of sweet, beautiful, creative, supportive virtual communities that lift them up and inspire. With oodles of appreciation & love, Amen.
Thanks for the solidarity 💕 Maybe we could start a watch tower? 😉 I’ve heard and read about people with bifurcated sleep and learned that there are many who don’t snooze straight through. I am grateful for books as well as for my virtual communities that help me during these spells.
‘May creatures everywhere be happy, healthy and free.” Today at sundown it will be Rosh Shoshanah, the beginning of the Jewish New Year. My granddaughter, Emma, is on the red eye now from California to NYC because of Monday am , the day of Rosh Shoshanah. Emma’s mum will be having surgery on her tongue cancer. I wrote Emma last night that Monday will be a blessed day for her, mum’s surgery because of this holiday, and the family will be surrounded by love and light. Emma is part Irish and Jewish so between these 2 traditions she will have many angels and ancestors watching over she, her mum and our entire family. Gif bless us all!
in chicago ive been awake for three nights with fever. because of this community, i wrote instead of staying stuck or going missing. i wrote about my irish ancestors. i wrote about my cousin in california & new york came up twice & i didnt know why. i am irish, & i wrote about my irish grandmothers. one i met & one i didnt. i also wrote from a jewish perspective & i didnt know why. i wrote about being visited by angels & ancestors in my living room. remembered edith eger & pictured her dancing for the sun, stars, trees--alone&together. i wrote about lost tongues & stuck tongues. i felt compelled to stay up & keep watch with the crickets & wind until sunrise. i listened to the wizard of oz to keep the mind wheel turning & my heartbeat steady. i think there will be much love & light tomorrow. i will pray.
May this day bring what it brings. May I accept it with grace, humor and remember to plant both my feet on the ground and to accept it with open arms. Because it is what it is and as my very wise mother has said many times, "It'll either work out or it won't".
Oh, and it has taken (You are no stranger to this) many hard years, living with the broken heartedness of your child suffering, to come to a place, a practice, a daily practice of this humble mantra. Thank you.
May creatures everywhere be happy healthy and free. May we all know some peace, may we all get out of our own heads just a little bit more this week. May we be present and experience all our feelings.
Thank you for this. I am in Boston this week for my second post cancer scans. I feel good but I can’t help but be nervous.
May creatures everywhere be happy, healthy and free. May today, the day you say goodbye to your best friend Riley, of almost 16 years, bring you peace. May the morning at 9am, when the vet drives down your long driveway to see your beautiful gardens, give her even more compassion for the best boy. May she remind you and your family how kind you are to do this for him. May you feel your sadness wholly and that the love of your family hold you all.
For about a year and a half, I got together with a small group of people at my mom’s assisted living home to meditate and talk together. Everyone who came was dealing with multiple health problems, and most were in the final few years of their lives. After meditating, listening to ocean sounds, looking at sea shells, reading poems, and other things, we would end with this version of the compassion prayer, told to me by my friend, who was a Buddhist monk: “may all beings be well, happy and peaceful, free from enmity and suffering. Whatever goodness we have done, may we give to all beings, in all spheres and in all dimensions, without condition.” One day, spontaneously, one of the people in the group turned to the woman sitting next to her and offered her a prayer, just for her. And so on it went, around the circle. This became our tradition, and we started offering these blessings to each other whenever we met! We no longer meet--several “regulars” passed away or moved, and so we eventually disbanded. But in honor of these people, who taught me so much, here are some blessings: For Jane, may you always be near squirrels playing in treetops and may the people in the dining room not be annoying; For David, may your paintings and stories of scuba diving be deep, dark and turquoise blue; For Tom, may you find exactly the right quote for the day; and for Shirley, may your children spend lots of holidays close by and have safe travels wherever they go.
How beautifully and truthfully written. Thank you. It is healing to read. I have been there many times with my teenage daughter and recently with myself. It is hard to understand “scanxiety” unless you have lived through it. Sometimes compassion and prayer are beyond words… “the Spirit prays for us with groans to deep for words.”
May creatures everywhere by happy, healthy and free. May we all be kind and generous and celebrate and support each other every day, every moment. Kindness is contagious - share your good blessings, good vibes, good karma, good luck.

I think of my dearest and oldest friend, Elaine - we have shared almost 60 years of laughter and broken hearts and a bit of everything life can throw at you. Let it continue on and on ...
May creatures everywhere be happy, healthy and free. May people everywhere be brave, attentive and grateful. May nature everywhere be boundless, beautiful and protected.
To those who are struggling with the hard places that life leaves at our door please be sure that we see you. We love you. You are not alone. Reach out and you will find a hand to help you. There is much sadness in the world today, but there is also such beauty. Look for the beauty. May peace and joy follow. L’shana tova.

According to my Fitbit, you wrote this at the same time I finally went back into the blessed land of sleep after a couple of hours of insomnia. ❤️

Bifurcated sleep--very interesting! I don't think I've ever heard or read about this until today. :)
waiting for sleep after several nights; happy i am not (have not been) alone 🤎 oodles back.
May creatures everywhere be happy, healthy, and free.
May they believe they can be happy, healthy, and free.
May they help others to be happy, healthy, and free.
And bless the grass that grows through the cracks.
May the world heal. May the world heal. May the world heal.
Thank-you for your prayer. It resonates with me. I am going to write it down and pray it.
Amen.
thank you; i believe

And it shall bring you tears...this is so beautiful, Meredith and so heart breaking. I hold you, your sweet Riley and your family in my heart today.
A great prayer, I have been there, so perfect for the situation.
Sending love
I want to write like this, such a short essay that grabbed my heart.

How I would have loved to be in that group at that time. Thank you for sharing and for remembering.
